NETRANI IN MURUDESHWAR TO SOON BECOME A WRECK DIVING SPOT
The Uttara Kannada district administration is checking the feasibility of wreck-diving close to Netrani Island off the Murudeshwar coast. Netrani Island rich in marine flora and fauna with coral reefs in its sea beds is already a well known scuba-diving destination and now can become Karnataka’s wreck-diving destination too.
The island bed home to a fishing boat, that sank about ten years ago has a variety of little fish and different aquatic creatures are seen close to the shipwreck. The wreckage is at a depth of 27m. The crystal clear water of the Arabian Sea with the fishes swimming through the decomposed wooden planks of the fishing boat is a sight to be seen.
Recently, the district administration had asked the Navy officers from INS Kadamba Naval Base, Karwar, Indian Coast Guard and Department of Studies in Marine Biology, Karnatak University, Dharwad, to check the likelihood of beginning wreck diving.
