Rudrashila- White water rafting expedition flagged off at Jaisalmer
The white water Rafting Expedition named ‘RUDRASHILA’ will be undertaken by the Kalidhar Battalion under the aegis of Battle Axe Division was Flagged Off on Eleven Sept 2019 at Jaisalmer Military station by Major General T K Aich, Commanding officer of the Battle Axe Division.
The expedition Rudrashila has been organized to commemorate the seventy-fifth Raising day of the Kalidhar Battalion. ‘Rudrashila’ takes its name from the renowned Rudraprayag tributary of the Ganges River within the Mountains of Uttarakhand. ‘Kalidhar Battalion’ was raised on 01 November 1943 and has participated in all major operations of the Indian Army together with two overseas assignments in Korean Peninsula in 1953 and United Nations peacekeeping operations in Congo in 2005-06.
The Rafting expedition team led by Major Ravi Kant Gaurav compromises of two Officers, Four Junior Commissioned Officers and eighteen soldiers. It will cover a complete distance of 140 km from Rudraprayag to Rishikesh over a number of tough and dangerous rapids in the mighty Ganga river. The expedition is conducted from 1st Oct to 4th Oct 2019.
Major General Tarun Kumar Aich expressed that such expeditions show the spirit of adventure, teamwork, leadership and skills to discharge operational tasks underneath stress, which is the basis of the Indian Army. He conjointly highlighted the necessity to unfold awareness towards the ‘Preservation of River Eco-system’ in line with the ‘Namami Gange Initiative’ moreover as tremendous potential for water sports and eco-tourism which might lead to a source of income to the locals.
